Spicy Tomatillo Salsa Recipe (Smoky, Bold, and Better Than Store-Bought)
A smoky, bold salsa made with charred tomatillos, onion, garlic, jalapeño, and Serrano peppers, blended with lime juice and cilantro.

- 1 tablespoons olive oil
- 9.5 tomatillos
- 0.5 onion halved
- 2 jalapeño peppers
- 2 Serrano peppers use 1 for less spice
- 4 garlic cloves with peel
- 1 teaspoons salt
- 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
- 0.5 lime juiced
- 1 teaspoons chicken bouillon optional
- 0.3 cups fresh cilantro to taste
Heat skillet and add vegetables: Heat 1 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the 9.5 tomatillos, 0.5 onion, halved, 2 jalapeño peppers, 2 Serrano peppers (use 1 for less spice), and 4 garlic cloves, with peel.
Char vegetables: Char for 15 minutes

Peel garlic: Carefully peel the charred garlic and add all the charred ingredients directly to a blender.
Blend the salsa: Add 1 teaspoons salt, 0.5 teaspoons black pepper, 1 teaspoons chicken bouillon (optional), 0.5 lime, juiced, and 0.3 cups fresh cilantro, to taste to the blender. Pulse until you reach your desired consistency.
Taste and adjust: Taste and adjust salt or lime juice as needed.
Serve: Serve with tortilla chips.
